Bill Moon bought the Iowa 80 Truckstop in 1984 from Amoco. Since then, he has been expanding and renovating the store. In 1994, he added a new store. Then, in 1992, he became a Travel Centers of America franchisee. In his retirement, Bill Moon died and Carolyn took over management of the business. The couple’s daughter, Carolyn, grew up as a single mom and graduated from Southwest Missouri State University.

Recently, the Iowa 80 Group opened its new headquarters building, just north of the truck stop. The new office building features high ceilings and three expandable wings. The space is nearly T-shaped and has a Dairy Queen and restaurant. In 2008, the Iowa 80 Group sold the company’s Oak Grove 70 Truckstop to Petro Stopping Centers. It’s a great place for a stopover.

The Iowa 80 Group started in Oklahoma City in 1993 and expanded the business in the same year. In 2003, the group opened the second truckstop in Oklahoma City. Then, they added a new truck stop in Omaha and in 2001, they opened the truck stop in Davenport restful. After that, the company has continued to grow and develop other locations. They have won several awards, including the Better Business Bureau Integrity Award.

The world’s largest truckstop was built in 1977 by Bill Thompson. It was a successful business and he is still running a successful truckstop and Truckomat. He discovered that truckers were getting too many overweight fines and that they were often paying a lot of money to avoid them. He then developed the first fully automated full-length platform scale.
